When asked about the motivation behind establishing this lodge amidst over 3,000 competitors, Nathalie Van Pee, one of the Director’s at Nile Safari Lodge reflects thoughtfully.
“Our family has lived in Uganda for more than 25 years and have travelled extensively. However, whenever we mentioned Uganda, most people wouldn’t recognize it. So we went on a mission is to elevate Uganda as a travel destination by delivering a luxury experience to these potential guests,” she explains.
Nile Safari Lodge is ideal for honeymoons, retreats, and vacations, featuring stunning architecture that harmonizes with the natural surroundings. Despite facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted operations for two years, the lodge has continued to thrive over its five years in business.
While celebrating World Tourism Day, Nathalie emphasizes, “Our goal is to attract visitors to Destination Uganda. Our very first guests, a family from Kenya, arrived on September 13, 2019, and were astonished by the beauty here, often asking, ‘Is this really Uganda?’ Even when caught in a downpour, they found joy in the experience.”
The lodge prides itself on hiring local staff, chosen for their passion for hospitality rather than formal qualifications. Guests are greeted with warm smiles and the customary “Afoyo Bino” (welcome).
When reflecting on what sets Nile Safari Lodge apart, Nathalie notes the architectural style, which draws inspiration from local designs and adds, “Imagine swimming in a salted pool with a view of the River Nile, surrounded by the mist from Murchison Falls, then taking in the sunset to enjoying the company of Monkeys, birds, and other wildlife,” she says. “This, combined with a five-course meal featuring local delicacies, makes for a unique experience.”
